Water and Sanitation Initiative (WSI) Global Programming is a multi-country initiative to fund water, sanitation and hygiene programs through 3 multilateral agencies: UNICEF; Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council; and the World Bank. The purpose of these contributions is to: increase the impact of the WSI; complement activities funded bilaterally; widen the geographical focus of WSI; and to work with multilateral partners to enhance learning and information exchange opportunities. Supporting these three programs will enable AusAID to contribute quickly and effectively to the water, sanitation and hygiene sector while also building bilateral programs for the longer term. The total value of this initiative is $26.9 million over 4 years, starting 2008-09.
