The Provincial Road Management Facility (PRMF) assists the Philippine Government rehabilitate and maintain more than 1000km of provincial roads in up to 10 provinces in Mindanao and the Visayas. PRMF aims to boost the local economy by improving road transport so that more people will have better access to rehabilitated and maintained road networks, economic activity and public infrastructure and services that will improve their livelihoods. A total of 14 road rehabilitation projects have been completed. Initial reports document improvements for communities in: travel times (a reduction by as much as 50 per cent in some areas); employment opportunities for local unskilled workers; economic activity for businesses along roads; increased investment by farmers in agricultural production. The total value of this initiative is $100.0 million over 6 years, starting 2009-10.
